From pizza to legend

Early 1950s – Sam and Louise Perrella open a small café in Keewatin, Minn.

1954 – Sammy’s Pizza and Restaurant is born in Hibbing, Minn., when Sam and Louise open a restaurant with original family recipes for pizza, spaghetti, ravioli, meatballs, gnocchi, soups and salad dressings.

1956 – Sammy’s opens at 101 W. First St. in downtown Duluth, Minn.

1956 – Sammy’s opens at 403 N. Central Ave. in West Duluth.

1957 – Sammy’s opens at 126 W. Second St. in Winona, Minn.

1957 – Sammy’s opens at 416 S. Barstow in Eau Claire, Wis.

1958 – Sammy’s opens at 4631 E. Superior St. in Duluth’s Lakeside neighborhood.
 
1959 – Sammy’s opens at 400 N. Broadway in Minot, N.D.

1986 – Sammy’s opens at 802 Pokegama Ave. S. in Grand Rapids, Minn.

1990 – Sammy’s opens at 5106 Miller Trunk Rd. in Hermantown, Minn.

1991 – Sammy’s opens at 4011 Woodland Ave. in Duluth.

2000 – Sammy’s opens at 305 Sunnyside Dr. in Cloquet, Minn.

2004 – Sammy’s opens at 445 99th Ave. N.W. in Coon Rapids, Minn.

2004 – Sammy’s opens at 2812 London Road in Eau Claire, Wis.

2006 – Sammy’s opens at 1247 West Divide Avenue in Bismark, N.D.

2006 – Sammy’s opens at 9750 Schreiber Terrace in Brooklyn Park, Minn.

2007 – Sammy’s opens at 3 West Central Entrance in Duluth.

2009 – Sammy’s celebrates 55th anniversary April 27-May 3.
